I think the most over-used piece of equipment in a car, well, besides a cell phone, is the rear view mirror. I think it is in life too.
And while I think on a literal basis, we would all be better served by looking at ourselves in any mirror as infrequently as possible, on a figurative basis, we don't do it often enough.
And while we're on the subject of mirrors, or at least I am, can we get it straight once and for all - if someone is a mirror image of someone - are they exactly the same, or exactly the opposite?

Just partners in the Jihad Extremist Brotherhood
From a Nicholas Kristof column in today's NYT: "I asked an old friend here in Cairo, a woman with Western tastes that include an occasional glass of whiskey, whether the Muslim Brotherhood might be bad for peace. She thought for a moment and said: “Yes, possibly. But, from my point of view, in America the Republican Party is bad for peace as well.”
If you say it often enough...people still forget the truth
Some things that aren't true need to be said over and over to get people to believe them, such as much of what is in some upcoming posts about the myths of the Reagan legacy. And some things need to be said over and over just to remind folks of the facts, like this...when Bill Clinton left office in January 2001, the OMB said that the country had a projected surplus of $5.6 trillion over the next decade. Eight years later, decisions to make two large tax cuts without offsetting them, to invade two countries, at least one of which we still don't understand the reason for, and to create a Medicare prescription drug benefit without paying for it, meant that the nation faced projected deficits of $10.4 trillion over the next decade.
